जनरल मोटर्स व फोर्ड की भी हालात पतली

‘जनरल मोटर्स’ और ‘फोर्ड’ जैसी वाहन बनाने वाली बड़ी-बड़ी अमेरिकी कंपनियों की हालत दिनोंदिन पतली होती जा रही है। विशेषज्ञों ने वित्तीय क्षेत्र की कंपनियों के धराशाई होने के बाद अब दूसरी तरह की परेशानी शुरु होने की आशंका जताई है। पिछले वर्ष की मंदी के बाद वाहन बनाने वाली अमेरिकी कंपनियों की मुश्किलें उतरोत्तर बढ़ती ही जा रही हैं। जनरल मोटर्स और फोर्ड को अरबों डॉलर का नुकसान हो चुका है। अब ये कंपनियां ढ़लान पर हैं। मौजूदा वित्तीय संकट की वजह से ऋण के भरोसे चलने वाली बड़ी-बड़ी कंपनियों के कोष में कटौती हो चुकी है। वाहन बनाने वाली कंपनियों के शेयरों में सामान्य से ज्यादा गिरावट के कारण शेयर बाजार भी लड़खड़ा गए हैं।

वाहन बनाने वाली अमेरिका की सबसे बड़ी कंपनी जनरल मोटर्स और इसी क्षेत्र की दूसरी सबसे बड़ी कंपनी फोर्ड का नुकसान घीरे-धीरे खतरनाक स्तर तक जा पहंुचा है। यदि स्थिति नहीं सुधरी तो इनकी हालत भी लेहमैन ब्रदर्स जैसी हो सकती है। गौरतलब है कि ये कंपनियां वित्तीय संकट के पहले से ही रिकार्ड नुकसान झेल रही थीं, इसलिए वित्तीय संकट से इनकी हालत और बुरी हो गई है।

DESPERATE US car giants General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are contemplating mergers and a major asset sale to survive the credit crunch.

Battered by plunging sales and high fuel prices, the big three are making decisions which would have been impossible almost five years ago.

General Motors, the number one carmaker, and arch rival Chrysler, ranked third, are in merger talks.

Ford which is the second biggest US car firm, is looking at selling the 30 per cent controlling interest it has in Mazda - its most profitable business arm and ranked fourth on Australia's best selling car list.

GM yesterday was reported to be in preliminary talks with Cerberus Capital Management, the buyout firm that owns Chrysler.
